CommBank reverses duplicate transaction errors on bank statements

Customers are encouraged to check bank statements after a technical glitch resulted in transactions being charged twice this week.

A Commonwealth Bank spokeswoman said the company was aware of the issue and would “automatically remove these duplicates”.

“We apologize for the inconvenience and are working to resolve this issue as quickly as possible and want to reassure customers that completed transactions will not be charged twice,” she said.

Brisbane Wynnum Members What! The Facebook group raised the issue on Tuesday.

Customers had shopped at a variety of retailers including Aldi, Woolworths and various petrol stations and pharmacies before experiencing the double-up.

Belinda Clapson said her $150 fuel purchase was processed twice, money she didn’t have to waste.

She said she waited on the phone at Commonwealth Bank for over an hour.

Another customer, Rickilea Fenwick-Molnár, said a bill she paid also appeared twice.

The Commonwealth Bank spokeswoman said the cancellations were processed overnight.

“Customers should only see one transaction, which will be reflected in their balance.

“Any affected customers are encouraged to contact us.”
