If you haven’t checked your bank statements closely lately, you should now.
Unauthorized Google charges appear on Chase Visa statements.
And while there are different accounts, all of the fees are for the same odd amount, $ 13.01.
Beth sent an email stating that her account had three of these charges, all of which pointed to Google.
“My card has been linked to Google Chrome and Google Play,” she says.
But none of these charges were authorized. Not all of the affected cards were even linked to Google Accounts. And most of the charges have nothing to do with Google.
We only found two of the accusations we saw regarding Google Play.
They are “Dwarves” and “Danmi”.
The other “Google” charges were associated with trade names or names of people.
So what is going on?
We contacted Chase, Google and Visa. One thing is for sure, there is a reason the charges are for such small amounts.
We see more and more crooks hoping to sneak up on them, perhaps month after month. Since most credit fraud alerts are for larger amounts, you might never notice.
If this happens to you, contact your credit card company immediately.
In some cases, the charges were overturned and many of them canceled their cards.
Despite the screenshots of the charges from us, Chase tells us that they need specific account information to investigate. In a statement to us, Chase said, “We encourage customers to regularly check their accounts for any transactions they do not recognize. They will not be responsible for transactions they have not authorized and which they notify us of. quickly.”
And they say you can read more about the fraud here.
Visa also claims that cardholders are protected against fraud.
Google didn’t respond before our deadline.
Unfortunately, some say the charges have continued on their new cards.
It is therefore a reminder to check your bank and credit statements line by line by questioning any debit that does not seem correct.
Flag those you don’t recognize and review past claims for similar charges.
