Bank guard found dead in Rangpur

Police recovered the body of a security officer from his workplace at the Rangpur branch of Agrani Bank on Central Road in the city on Sunday morning.

The deceased is Shamim Miah, 25, a resident of Ranipukur village under Mithapukur upazilla in the district.

The bank’s branch manager, Ariful Islam, said Shamim had served in the branch as a security guard for about two years.

“He got married ten days ago. Officials and employees, after coming to the office in the morning, found him lying on the floor. He did not answer despite several calls. Later they found him dead,” he said.

“We immediately informed the police and the fire brigade. Police and firefighters found no incidents of looting at the bank. We have been shutting down branch customer service for the incident since morning,” he added.

The deceased’s brother, Shariful Islam, said Shamim used to come home regularly in the evenings. ‘But he didn’t come home last night.

Kotowali Police Inspector (Investigation) Hossain Ali said police recovered the body and sent it to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

He said they were investigating whether it was a case of murder or suicide
