Bank accounts of two who harbored Chinese men scanned | News from Noida

NOIDA: Investigators interviewing a Chinese man, believed to have been living in Greater Noida without a valid visa since 2020, and his Indian partner said on Tuesday they would go through the couple’s bank accounts and are looking for anyone who could have helped the foreigner prolonged stay in the country.
Among those on the radar are the fugitive Chinese business partner and a travel agent in the NCR, they said. Authorities also found a fake voter ID card and Indian passport in the foreigner’s possession.
The couple were arrested on Monday for allegedly harboring two other Chinese men – Yung Hai Lung (34) and Lo Lung (28) – who were caught trying to enter Nepal from India via a border outpost in Bihar. The pair had told Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) that the couple hosted them for 15 days at their Jaypee Greens society house in Greater Noida.
After a tip-off by the SSB, Greater Noida Police found the couple – Xue Fei alias Kelay (36) from Chinese Hebei and Petekhrinuo, 22 from Nagaland – at a hotel in Gurgaon and arrested them.
The Intelligence Bureau (IB) and the Local Intelligence Unit (LIU) were mobilized to investigate the matter.
Officials told TOI on Tuesday that during interrogation they discovered that Xue came to India on a business visa in 2019, but expired in 2020 when the pandemic hit.
“He had been living illegally with Petekhrinuo in the Greater Noida Society ever since. He said he couldn’t return because of the Covid-19 outbreak. His visa documents were forged. We are trying to catch his travel agent and are investigating who falsified the documents,” a senior official said on condition of anonymity.
The agencies are also trying to find Xue’s business partner based in Noida and Ghaziabad who is on the run.
“The Chinese national had set up two mobile parts manufacturing units in Ghaziabad and Noida with the help of a local. The local is on the run and his cell phone is off but we have some information,” the official added. Apart from that, investigators are going through the couple’s bank statements and account details to trace any ‘suspicious transactions’.
“We also discovered that Xue had a fake Indian passport and a voter ID card with another person’s name and photo on it. The passport was issued in Kolkata,” the official said, adding that his original Chinese passport has not been recovered so far.
“It is suspicious that he came for business in India but then got an Indian passport,” he said.
Additionally, Petekhrinuo’s alleged involvement in harboring the two Chinese nationals is under scrutiny. The 22-year-old met Xue at a party in Noida earlier this year and the two have been living together for two months. “She got two SIM cards for the two Chinese men when they stayed at the couple’s house in Jaypee Greens for 15 days in May,” the official said.
